President's Welcome!

Welcome to the 2024/2025 year! As your president, I am honored to extend a warm welcome to all of you. This year, we embrace the theme "Climbing Higher Together: The Financial Aid Adventure," reflecting our shared commitment to supporting one another as we navigate the challenges ahead. I hope this note finds you well as you prepare for the upcoming Fall semester.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge the vital work you do every day to support students and families in navigating the complexities of financial aid. Your dedication and expertise are what make higher education accessible and attainable for countless individuals.

This year has presented us with unprecedented challenges in the realm of financial aid, and I am deeply aware of the hard work and stress that each one of you is experiencing. FAFSA simplification has introduced many hurdles and frustrations, to say the least. I fear that many students, particularly those from low-income families, may have given up on the college enrollment process because of the difficulties faced with the new FAFSA. While significant reform is not without challenges, we have faced more than our share.

Yesterday's announcement in General-24-96, suspending batch corrections until 2025-2026, has no doubt increased your anxiety and frustration. Like you, I am extremely discouraged by the lack of accountability by the Secretary and leadership at the US Department of Education. As my favorite artist Taylor Swift reminds us, “Just keep dancing like you're 22.” Even in the face of setbacks, we must continue to move forward, embracing our resilience and determination to support one another and our students.

I do believe that we have a chance to improve the system, advocate for necessary changes, and continue to support the students who depend on us for guidance and help. Your resilience, dedication, and commitment are making the difference in the lives of so many.

Thank you for your unwavering dedication to our profession and the support you provide our students. Be encouraged, you are changing the world, one student at a time.

As we move forward, I encourage you to consider becoming more involved in our community. We understand that your time is valuable, but the time commitment for volunteering is not overwhelming. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with peers during this difficult time, share your expertise, and contribute to the growth and success of NCASFAA.
